In New Zealand a few weeks ago, Team USA experienced this when they suffered an incredibly harrowing crash of their America’s Cup 75 class sailboat.  This $10 million boat flies across the water on its hydrofoil monohull at speeds up to 60 mph.  While competing in the Prada Cup Semi-Final, the wind suddenly increased by 9 knots (13 mph), the AC75 capsized with its 11 member crew. The crew cut themselves out of their clips while stuck underwater trapped beneath the sail.  All were safe but PATRIOT suffered severe damage.  After two weeks of repairing a hole in PATRIOT, Team USA was unable to recover and lost the semi-final to Team Ineos UK.
